Much excitement here at Hull Street Angels Trinity – we’ve been shortlisted to appear in a televised appeal to receive funding from the People’s Millions, Big Lottery Fund!!!
If we’re successful the funding will be used to provide a “Nightsafe Help Point” in the city centre of Hull in addition to our existing Street Angel outreach support service.
Those of you who already know about us will know that we are a welcoming, reassuring presence in Hull’s night time economy and provide a valuable service to people who use Hull’s city centre. Hull has been awarded the Purple Flag in recognition of this, putting it on a par with cities like Nottingham, Birmingham and Liverpool, something which the Street Angels played a vital role in achieving.
Hull will become the City of Culture in 2017 and is destined to receive more visitors over the coming years many of whom will use the city centre at night. In addition to the outreach work we already do, our volunteers have come up with idea of a “Nightsafe Help Point”. This would provide a central point of access for all residents, revellers and visitors to the city where they can be signposted to restaurants, theatres etc and a safe place to wait for their family/friend or a taxi to take them home. This facility would make Hull even safer and more welcoming at night, particularly for individuals who may find themselves in a vulnerable situation. The “Night Safe Help Point” will not only provide a safe haven for those who need assistance but will also be a place where people can receive medical attention, information, help and advice on safe drinking, sexual health and personal safety. It will also provide a place where emergency services can support those who need their assistance quickly and effectively preventing further demand on already pressurised public services.
This funding is a competition. Each project is pitted against another (we are against Doncaster Rowing Club) and the public are asked to vote for which one they want to see win and receive the funding. Voting can only take place on Wednesday 26th November by telephone and the lines will be open from 9am until midnight. We would really appreciate it if you and your colleagues, family and friends could vote for this new Hull based project. If we are successful the project will make a real impact on the city. So PLEASE #votehull
